2022 AK Beer Award Registration Opens June 10, 2022 and Closes September 2, 2022
The AK Beer Awards bestows medals in 17 beer categories and 3 industry categories after craft beers from across the state are tasted in a double-blind judging weekend by a panel of expert judges. Winners will be announced during a celebratory evening.
Beer Categories
Golden, Blonde and Other Light Ales <6% : including any pale colored ales, do NOT include any hop forward beers in this category
Pale Lager <6% : including any pale colored largers, you may include hoppy lagers in this category
Red, Amber, Brown <6% : any medium SRM ale or larger including red, brown, marzen, etc, do NOT include coffee or smoked beers
Dark Beers <6% : any dark ale or larger including - Schwarzbier, Irish stout, Czech dark larger, etc, do NOT include coffee or smoked beers
Imperial Ale or Lager >6% : including any ale or larger - Imperial Red, Barleywine, Imperial Stout, etc. Do NOT include Barrel-Aged Beers. Do NOT include beers with coffee or smoke
Hazy or Juicy Hoppy Session Beer <6%
American Hoppy Session Beer <6%
Hazy or Juice IPA 6-7.5%
American IPA 6-7.5%
Imperial Hazy or Juicy IPA >7.5%
Imperial American IPA >7.5%
Belgian, German, Brett : yeast driven beers, Saison, Hefeweizen, Brett table beer, etc. Do NOT include clean German beers such as pilsner, festbier, etc. Do NOT include Brett beers with a strong acid presence.
Sour Beer : ANY traditional sour beer including Berliner Weiss, Gose, Flanders Red Ale, etc. ANY American sour beer including kettle sours/quick sours. Can include acid forward beers with subtle brettanomyces character. Do NOT include any fruited sour beers.
Flavored Beers : includes spiced herb, pumpkin, chili, chocolate, honey, nuts, seeds, flowers, tea, and or vegetable. NO coffee, smoke, or fruit.
Fruit Beers : ANY ale, larger, or mixed culture beer with fruit. ANY of the above with other adjuncts
Coffee and Smoked beers : ANY ale or larger with coffee or smoke character. ANY of the above with other adjuncts.
Barrel-Aged Beers : ANY barrel-aged ales or largers. Do NOT include any barrel-fermented acid or Brett forward beers.
*Registrations are limited to 2 entries per category, per brewery. Registered beers will need to be delivered between Monday, September 6th and Tuesday, September 28th in 64 ounce quantities. Delivery location to be announced. Industry Awards We'll be selecting the best of the best for our three industry awards. Selections will be awarded by our diverse "Academy" representing the various branches of the industry and spanning each region of the state.
